Gill Arukpe Awarded MBE in New Year’s Honours List

We are thrilled to announce that SIG Group CEO, Gill Arukpe, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list, recognising her remarkable 46-year career in the charity sector. Gill’s dedication has significantly impacted the lives of countless vulnerable individuals, particularly those experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges.

Throughout her career, Gill has been a vocal advocate for the homeless and those with mental health issues, leading campaigns that have driven policy changes to address these challenges. Her journey includes significant roles at Shelter, Novas Scarman Group, and Turning Point, focusing on mental health and substance abuse support. In 2009, she became the CEO of Penrose Options, demonstrating her leadership in social justice and community development.

In 2014, as the founding CEO of the Social Interest Group (SIG), Gill began building an organisation that supports a network of charities in their mission to provide essential services to vulnerable people.

SIG Housing Trust operates as an independent entity within the broader framework of SIG, allowing it to tailor its services and strategies specifically to the unique needs of its residents. This independence ensures that SIG Housing Trust can focus on its mission to provide stable and secure housing solutions.

Gill Arukpe stated, “Homelessness and mental health are now at chronic levels. We must continue to work together to find sustainable solutions and provide the necessary support to those in need.”

Gill’s MBE is a testament to her unwavering commitment and the profound impact of her lifetime’s work. Her legacy in the charity sector is one of resilience and relentless advocacy for the most vulnerable in society.
