Aids & Adaptations to Your Home

If you find that you need additional support to navigate your home safely and comfortably, we will do everything we can to assess your specific needs and explore suitable adjustments or adaptations.

 

Our goal is to ensure that your living space remains accessible, functional and tailored to your requirements, helping you move around with greater ease and independence.

Minor Adaptations

These are small adjustments to your home which may be able to help improve its functionality, safety and comfort.

 

These could include alterations such as:

 

  • Handrails to help you get in and out of the bath or shower
  • Grab rails inside or outside of your home.

 

Such adaptations may be arranged without a need for an occupational health referral.

Major Alterations

These may be funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) which is available from your local authority.

 

To access a grant, you will usually require an assessment from an occupational therapist. This will involve them assessing both you and your home. They’ll then support your request by sending us an Occupational Therapist report.

 

Major adaptations would include: 

 

  • Access ramps both external and internal if required
  • Modifications to bathrooms to allow level access
  • Wheelchair-accessible kitchens

 

We will need to authorise any grant-funded adaptations; therefore, your local authority will contact us directly about this.
